Easy Trick Photography That Even A Kid Can Do!
“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” –Dorothea Lange
I have been searching for easy trick photography that my kids can do at home but I haven’t been able to find much.
We experimented with trick photography a few years ago and purchased a used book on Amazon entitled Tricky Pix that was a perfect starting point to learn.
Since then, I have been looking online for a blog post, article, or website devoted to kid friendly trick photography and have only been able to find harder, more technical kinds of photography for professionals.
So….. I decided to share what we have done.
My interest in photography is in my genes, inherited from my photographer father who owned his own studio at one time and specialized in underwater photography. Also, my big brother, Harry Parker, is a professional photographer who specializes in sky diving and aerials.
I love pictures and have always had a camera. The Kodak Instamatic camera was the first camera I owned in Miami as a kid
and then I progressed to a Polaroid as a teenager.
My husband (then boyfriend) gave me my first real camera in the 1980’s for my 17th birthday and I have been taking pictures ever since. This love of photography runs in my blood. And this is one picture taking momma. I especially love any kind of picture that involves my kids. Pray for the kid who is elected to be ‘keeper of the family photo albums’. With my mom’s, dad’s, grandmother’s, and mine; they fill an entire book case.
I am realizing that photography is also a learned art. And really, I have a lot to learn. Most of what I have learned has been on my own.
Trick photography is something I have wanted to explore more and would love any tips or new ideas. Please share suggestions in the comments!
These photographs are imperfect. Remember, I am a mom and not a professional photographer. Most of these shots were taken in my yard. My girls also took control of the camera and made some of these pictures. So remember, if this is doable by a kid, then anyone can do it!
“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” Ansel Adams
This shot would have looked more real without the coke icee™ cup in the background. And they would have also looked better if the lighting had been more similar on both girls.
The following shots took a long time to get right and my daughters were impatient. Keep that in mind when you are shooting with kids.
Do not include anything in the background like the truck in this photo, or the dog.
Revenge of the little sister…..
Poor mom!!!!
Sisterly love…..
Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. Psalm 72:18
It would have been better to do these shots on ground that stayed the same, such as all grass.
The beach is great for trick photography. And to be honest it is where I first discovered trick photography in my dad”s photo albums. I found some old pictures he had taken on the beach when he and my mom were younger.
So I tried it with some friends.
This one is my favorite…..
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion. Psalms 111:4
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11
