Adventure Group toured BBN, The Bible Broadcast Network.
We discovered it is a ministry, not a business.
Purpose
“Simply stated, our purpose is to get God’s word into the hearts and minds of people using the most efficient means at our disposal. Radio and the internet remain the most cost-effective tools for reaching people with the Gospel and teaching them 24 hours a day.”
The founder, Lowell Davey, had a heart for radio and realized early the power of mass communication. On Christmas Eve 1970, a construction permit was granted for WYFI, the first radio station.
He trusted God for the money. There are no commercials and BBN is 100% listener supported.
The way God provided the building, where BBN is located, is a story all by itself. It was acquired as a foreclosure and all the furniture was included. It is a gorgeous building and location.
In 1974, a second station was bought. Now BBN was a network! Soon, dozens of radio stations were purchased. In 1996, a Spanish station went into South America. As of 2013, BBN is aired on 134 outlets (full powered radio station, transator, or satelator) in North America and 86 outlets in South America.
Now over 200,000 million people are reached via radio.
In 1996, a website was developed. Internet became another means of mass communicating God’s word.
“Through internet and on radio, we are aware that people are listening to BBN in 187 [countries]. The total number of Independent countries in the world currently stands at 196.” George Quick; Director of BBN Biblical Counseling and Communications (and a former homeschooler)
“To God Be The Glory, Great Things He Hath Done” is BBN’s theme song.
BBI, The Bible Broadcast Institute was developed so that anyone can take classes to learn about the Bible; you can study online for free, 24 hours a day. BBI is available in 196 countries. Currently there are students from 171 countries studying with BBI. In total, about 180,000 students have enrolled at BBI; 66,000 of these are Spanish. Browse BBI courses and study online anywhere.
This is a Prayer Warrior map for Asia, with the pins representing those people praying for BBN.
There is power in prayer.
Live chats became a source for people to write in, ask questions, and become believers.
The lady in charge of China/Asia, took a picture of us and posted on facebook~Asia. Within 5 minutes, we had 26 likes. How cool is that?!?! Social media really is changing the world.
BBN is now broadcasted in 8 languages: English, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, German, Chinese, Portuguese, and Korean.
Here is an on-air broadcast room.
Children’s programming includes:
Adventure’s in Odyssey, Patch the Pirate, The Captain’s Club, Faith Crossing, and Children’s Bible Hour Classics.

The router room connects BBN to all parts of the world.
This is the legend for the map below.
Look at how great BBN’s presence is throughout the world. And all because of one man’s vision and a big faith in a great God.
Now, that is how to get the Word out about the Great Things is Has Done… and is still doing!
Listen live, find a station or a program.
Every time someone is saved and accepts Jesus into their heart, Handel Messiah’s Hallelujah Chorus plays over the loud speaker.
Another Adventure with Adventure Group.
We are grateful for the opportunity to learn about this powerful ministry. Who knows, maybe one of our kids will be a part of this some day.
Thank you BBN for having us!
By chance, I came across your website tonight. I started working in radio when I was 15 years old, at WYFI in Norfolk. Back then, BBN consisted of three stations, in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. I was one of the first announcers they had on their satellite network when it went on the air in the early 80’s. I’m 61 years old now, and have fond memories of my time there. I’ve gone on to own stations of my own, and now work as a voice-over talent, audio book narrator and audio producer from a studio in my home. I still have pictures of my early days at BBN, and am amazed at how much hair I had back then, and see how BBN has grown in leaps and bounds; more than we ever thought possible when I was there in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Lowell has gone to be with the Lord he served and I’m sure the Lord is pleased with the ministry he worked so hard to built on faith.
I hope your kids enjoyed the tour, and I sure hope one or two of them will have the passion and interest I had in radio when I was their age!
Be well, and God bless in your service to Him!
Thank you so much for reaching out! What a great story!Do you still announce? Blessings!
